Sébastien Cheramy is a French abstract painter, born in 1979. His work is inspired by weathered street surfaces — walls he perceives as spaces for contemplation and meditation. Finding symbolic meaning in scratches, damp spots, and cracks, he sees the passing of time as a language in itself. Working primarily in mixed media on large-format canvas, he builds his pictorial language through layered materiality, gestural marks, and calligraphic precision.
His work explores the contrast and balance between life and death — invariable constants in his practice. He works slowly, allowing layers of material to become a language that speaks through texture and restraint. Inspired by urban visual culture and the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, his canvases embody a sustained inquiry into impermanence and emotional tension.
Sébastien Cheramy began developing his abstract pictorial language from a young age and has established himself as a recognized painter exhibited across Europe and Asia. His work is held in private collections worldwide.
